So many people set goals, like they are chiseling them into stone. They set them as if they are oblivious to the normal adversities and the constant variables that are bound to happen. Things change, maybe that goal or several of your goals were never meant to be. Don't beat yourself up because you didn't achieve what you thought you were going to. Your goals should reflect where you want to go, but change as YOU CHANGE. The only constant is change.
Having been in the Army, so many years ago, I look at it as missions. Missions are different from goals. It is the difference between a belief and an idea. An idea is easy to change, but a belief is much harder to change. A mission is more like an idea.
Set yourself a mission. Set several missions in fact. Roll with a few ideas ( IE a few missions), be persistent, give your all, and see which missions follow through and which ones don't. Keep the ones that are working, and come up with new ones to add in. Just like in marketing, test, test, test.
Goals, true goals, are life goals. Things you want to achieve, things you want to see, the person you want to be, and the life you want to live. These can change as well, but these are much easier to lay out because they are based on YOU, not external sources. Life goals are about fulfillment, not money, not material possessions, and not about business. They are the things that once achieved, make you feel tranquility inside and that make you glow from the inside out. They are things that make all the hard work, all the sacrifice, all the pain, and all the anguish...WORTH IT.
So what does it take to get there?
It Takes WAR!
Wage a war to achieve peace in your life. Freedom come at a price, and if the price is not worth the war, then stay at your job and protest the unfairness of the economic crisis. If you can't take it, quit now...you will never make it through the pain and the anguish.
Pain just tells you that you are still alive, anguish just tells you that you still feel and you don't like what you feel.
My good friend John Seiferth has a great insight into goals and business and the mindset needed for all of it. Not to mention the proper perspective to achieve what you know you want to achieve.
Check out a recent radio interview he gave
